Three business partners — John Roach, Jim Walczak and his wife Lynnette — started Greenhouse Farms in 2016 with:
- a better way to grow lettuce
- 27 acres of pristine land in Maury County Tennessee
- two 5,500-square-foot greenhouses
- a dream of growing lettuce year-round and delivering “living lettuce” all over Middle Tennessee
We think there is a need for clean, fresh, environmentally friendly produce that’s grown year round in Middle Tennessee.
After years of buying store-bought lettuce for our families and tossing out soggy, wilted lettuce that rarely lasted longer than 1 week in the refrigerator, we were thrilled to learn of “a better way” to grow lettuce that lasts 3 weeks (or longer) in the fridge.
It’s called hydroponics — a technology that involves growing plants in a controlled greenhouse environment using just water; no soil.
In our greenhouses, we can grow lettuce (and tomatoes) year round and deliver within hours of being harvested.
Since we’re also diehard fans of Discovery channel, National Geographic channel, and all things environmentally friendly (or “green”) — we naturally gravitated toward growing our own lettuce when the opportunity presented itself.
Together, the three of us could be characterized as a little tech-oriented, a little farm-oriented, and a whole lot do-it-yourself oriented. We’re hard workers who enjoy going the extra mile to make things better than they have to be.
Our goal is to provide the highest-quality, freshest, best tasting produce to area restaurants, local stores & businesses, and health-conscious families in Middle Tennessee.
With 27 acres, we have plenty of room to expand and grow! The future definitely looks bright at Greenhouse Farms.
